After a boring period on Indian TV ads, finally a breeze of fresh air! That too from unexpected product and celebrity. How long advertisers wanted to promote inverters for utility purpose, mostly education (or loss of it) when there is power cut. Summers are already here. And Luminous has decided to use humour when its brand ambassador is Sachin Tendulkar. Honestly, when one thinks of God of Cricket, it’s all awe! Never not a single iota of comedy. But the executive team has done a great job. How power cut can change lives – you want to know then take a look at this ad! Really funny and impressive, conveys the idea exactly like Maggie – just in two minutes!
The second ad is from the ubiquitous Fevicol which has set really high standards and I think only Amul (print ads) come close to Fevicol in terms of consistency, craziness and innocence! So, the product is spray glue – something like Deodrand which can be used as quick adhesive. The first few seconds of the ad give impression that it’s another deo brand trying to impress the females (fed of this positioning!). But oh man, after the first 2 dot balls, all the remaining balls are hit for six. Just watch it for shear creativity and Teekhlaal red spicy ending J
I also planned to write about PNB home loan ads, which were a refreshing take on typical positioning of bank home loans- using animated characters. But unfortunately, the Nirav modi saga killed all the good work. Surprisingly, the ads are still on TV. There is a clear lesson to learn, if the brand has taken a hit, better stop the advertising and fix the issue at hand. All the money down the drain. A classic example of how different departments of organization work with zero communication among them.
